Mexican Arts and Crafts WPA era 12” scenic plaque. A captivating landscape and a working *Tlachiquero set the scene on this exquisite San Jose Mission Glazed Plaque. On red clay, signed on the front with their Maguey craftmark. In excellent condition, with no cracks, chips or repairs. The rich brown surround glaze is enhanced by the bright Mexicana colors. Made and glazed by hand it shows slight imperfections as is common with a hand crafted piece. One of 6 available.

*Tlachiqueros, who harvest the liquid, initiate the fermentation process by cutting out the center of the agave plant.

The "Tlachiquero" is the person who extracts the mead from the maguey and then ferments it and obtains the drink known as pulque. The word " tlahchiqui " comes from Nahuatl and refers to scraping a thing; in this case the maguey.
